Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy with duodeno-ilieostomy surgery is a surgical procedure in which a sleeve of stomach is created using staplers. In this surgery, most of the small intestine is bypassed and a loop of the distal part of small intestine called the ileum is joined to the first part of duodenum. When food is consumed, it comes via the food pipe into the stomach sleeve and then directly enters the small intestine.
It involves bypassing almost the entire length of the small intestine leaving only 200-250 cms for nutrient absorption.
This is a procedure for super super obese patients who require additional weight loss of about 30* to 40* kgs, and who have already undergone a primary procedure, such as sleeve gastrectomy.
